Emotional Intelligence Is the Key to Success

The development of emotional intelligence begins with being able to recognize our own emotions and be able to be aware of how we react in each situation.

Emotional intelligence is the ability of human beings to recognize and regulate our emotions and can be summarized in our ability to have self-control, empathy and good social interactions.

Emotional intelligence can be considered even more important than academic intelligence since it is what allows us to participate and share with other human beings in a harmonious and peaceful environment.

According to research conducted by Professor Goleman (author and science journalist), people with high emotional intelligence earn better wages and get better rewards in work and social life:

"Emotional intelligence is demonstrated not only by those who are outstanding leaders but by those who have outstanding performances."

-Professor Goleman

It’s very important to develop emotional intelligence, since learning to regulate emotions, and understanding how our reactions affect our social interactions will lead us to be more successful in life.

How can we have better emotional intelligence?
The development of emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize our own emotions and to be aware of how we react in each situation.

According to experts, emotional intelligence is composed of five pillars.

The three pillars of intrapersonal emotional intelligence:
1-SELF-KNOWLEDGE: know your own emotions.
2-SELF CONTROL: managing emotions.
3-SELF-MOTIVATION: setting goals and achieving them.

The two pillars of interpersonal emotional intelligence:
1-EMPATHY: recognize the emotions of others.
2-SOCIAL SKILLS: manage relationships.

The key to developing emotional intelligence is to understand our emotions and to be aware of our reactions. It's critical that we begin to examine the way in which we express and control our emotions because, in addition to knowing how to recognize, we are the example of our children and close people.

"If you do not control your emotional skills, if you are not aware of yourself, if you are not able to control your stressful emotions, if you can not have empathy and effective relationships, then no matter how smart you are, you will not get very far."
-Professor Goleman
